Thanks and Giving by Marlo Thomas

Oddly, even though the book features Marlo Thomas, her only contribution is in writing the introduction and acknowledgment page. All the short stories, poems and illustrations about various types of giving thanks are supplied by celebrities. Thomas is the spokesperson for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A family book, it is designed for a younger and older audience. The theme is Thanksgiving, while it communicates words of wisdom.

Who wouldn't want words of wisdom from various celebrities like Tiger Woods or Julianne Moore? A portion of the profits goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; therefore, it is also charitable. Unfortunately, it was released in 2005, well after demand for trendy compellations decreased to almost nothing.

Born in 1937, Thomas is a famous actress who was selected to represent St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Raised in Beverly Hills, she is Lebanese-American and married to Phil Donahue. Apparently, the role making her well-known is "That Girl."

Enjoying the book, it is entertaining. Many stories are based on old parables and Christian stories. Sometimes stories are unique. It reinforces traditional values. However, if attempting to find something to give thanks for, it might stimulate a new idea.

I enjoy the illustrations. The songs are hokey. Thanksgiving is a big holiday and it is surprising how few stories are available. Therefore, if a person is looking for a book with introspection or higher degree of thought for children, this would be an excellent addition to the bookcase.
